Picturesque Burford is a historic market town in the Cotswold hills of West Oxfordshire, England. The toponym derives from the Old English words burh meaning fortified town or hilltown and ford, the crossing of a river. The earliest certain reference of the town was in the Doomsday Book of 1086.
Set on the River Windrush, Burford is best known for it’s beautiful high street of classic Cotswold stone buildings, unchanged for centuries. This beautiful setting offers countless pubs and eateries, and of course many stylish shopping venues.
The Oxford Shirt Company started out over 30 years ago in a small shop on the high street selling knitwear. As the business grew, more shop space was acquired to house the increased stock, eventually expanded into full collections of Men’s, Ladies' and Children’s wear, and moving to its current home, which was first built in the 17th-18th century. The shop frontage was originally created in the early 19th century to house various trades such as a chemist and a grocer, and remains the same to this day.
Today The Oxford Shirt Company spans over 8 unique shop frontages, which have been sympathetically adapted inside to create a venue which is full of character, and well worth a visit.
