Ursula Daphne Aitchison

Photographer

They say never work with animals and yet that is exactly what Ursula has been doing for the last 8 years, and she couldn’t be happier. Inspired by her late great Uncle, the painter Craigie Aitchison, who’s beloved Bedlington Terriers never left his side and would often feature in his work, she takes great joy in capturing the incredible bond people have with their animals.

Her tutor at art college encouraged her to get a camera, she’s still not sure to this day if that’s because she was terrible at art, or because she saw something in her! It wasn’t long before she found her way into fashion and commercial photography in London, but Ursula never lost her passion for working with dogs and their owners. It’s the unpredictable nature of working with animals that appeals to her. Whilst she can control the light, location and even the owners, there’s only so much Doctor Doolittling that’s possible.

What started out as a bit of fun, ‘Dogumenting’ her daily adventures with her own dogs, golden retrievers, Hugo and Huxley, has virtually become a full-time occupation, such is the following she has built on social media. You could be forgiven thinking she was a real-life Doctor Doolittle - we can’t recall the last time we saw a dog sat in a cafe wearing spectacles and a shirt! Now splitting her time between London and the Cotswolds, the backdrop to her photography may have changed, but the fun, life and energy abounds.

Ursula is pictured on one of her shoots wearing our fitted Oxford shirt in pink and white stripe. Semi-fitted with its gently tapered waist, long length, and back waist darts, there is so much about this shirt that sets it apart from the crowd. It’s also the one we are most proud of.

The tight basket weave with contrasting threads gives surface interest while the softly rolled button-down collar is neat and unfussy. The contrast buttonholes and embroidery at the cuff add a touch of flamboyance and its long length allows it to be tucked in or worn out.

She is also pictured styling our Floral Eve shirt, made with Liberty fabric, paired with our knitted neppy vest in navy, the ideal choice when there is a slight nip in the air. Its shorter length looks great layered over dresses and shirts.
